The Traditional Range of garden tools are inspired by the look, feel and quality of the items offered by Bentley’s in the 1930’s. Clearly times have changed and so we are able to utilise modern materials and manufacturing techniques. But to us, the style and attention to detail found in the tools are almost as important as the quality! We are equally delighted that our tools are designed, specified and enjoyed by committed and enthusiastic gardeners.

When you pick up a Digging Spade or Fork from the Stainless Steel range you are immediately struck by just how light and well balanced it is. Compare the Stainless Steel tool with its Carbon Steel equivalent. Tryout the tool as you would a new Cricket bat! The balancing point and weight will really benefit the enthusiastic gardener - allowing more sustained use without fatigue. It must also be noted that some gardeners do actually prefer the additional weight of a Carbon Steel tool. That is why we give you the choice!
The solid Ash wooden handle of all our tools is stained to a beautifully antiqued patina and is carefully finished to be wonderfully smooth to the touch.
As you study the tool in detail you will notice that the handle grip is rebated. This is because all wooden handles will begin to dry out and in time may eventually shrink slightly. The addition of a simple rebate prevents the handle from twisting.
The end of the wooden handle where it meets the stainless steel socket is rounded slightly and the rivet that keeps the handle fixed in place is polished so smooth as to be virtually invisible!
These refinements ensure that the area where you are most likely to grip the tool in use is smooth and unlikely to cause irritation or an even worse injury, to your hand. We find it incredible just how many well known manufacturers of Branded tools do not do this!
The Border (or Ladies) Stainless Steel Spade and Fork are significantly longer than most other brands. The lightness and balance of the tool allows for us to incorporate a longer “lever”. This will help with the actual digging and lifting process.
The gauge of the stainless steel used on the Long Handled Tools is thicker than most other brands. This not only increases the obvious strength of the tool, it also prevents “flex” of the head. This allows for a more consistent and accurate pass or stroke.
